Has become a Hobart standard.

I had a rabbit potted pie that was spectacular. I also like their apricot cream cheese danish. I like the way Anselm adds the chocolate to the milk before he froths it. I am sure their will be more to be said on the coffee.

My only real complaint is that it can be too expensive. Buy a pastry and a hot chocolate and it is pushing $10.

I have heard a rumour that they are looking to revamp the menu. Which I think is a good thing. My eyes only notice the few new things that they have.

Just in case you have all missed it J&M have opened in Victoria Street in the city.

Great venue and all food is to the standard we have come to expect from the talented Mr Jackman.

Chris Jackman is a genius.

Although Jean Pascal wins in the bread stakes.

Oh man...

Fresh tomato, asparagus, and camambert, on a bed of polenta lathered with basil pesto.

The polenta so creamy but firm, and the asparagus so perfectly perfect.

Oh man!

Just in case the awesome folks at J&M read this. Please will you consider rabbit and quince pie for the menu? I would be your undead fan.

Cracking bakery and cafe - sure it's expensive but there is value to be found - the calzone!
Coffee is hard to beat.

The calzone is indeed a ripper! I recently had the smoked salmon & egg tart which was simply awesome.

Their apple crumble pie is extremely nice. It just needs a sprinkle of cinnamon & whipped cream with nutmeg to make it perfect, to which end I believe it's best to take it home.
However, they somehow manage to cram into their flaky pastry the most massive (& nauseating) amounts of butter I've ever tasted in flaky pastry. Really quite gross (unless, of course, you're crazy for huge amounts of butter) and unnecessary.
They are also one of those places that label things as having "pesto" in them when they actually just put in a few flakes of dried basil & there might've been a garlic clove somewhere in the building when they made it.

What's wrong with Butter and Parmesan? (Not really a review comment)

A review comment I do have is, I wish they would change their pies. They have been good, but it is time to retire them, and get some new ones.

Ok, I think they use too much and wanted to warn anyone who doesn't like too much butter & parmesan in their food.

To me thats like saying there's too much meat in that pie!

And JJ the New Town J&M on Sunday seems to be the testing ground for new pies, a month ago I had a Wild Hare and Mushroom pie, I still prefer the standard Lamb and Rosemary however.
