I will admit, I went to Solicit only because Raincheck was packed-out.
I was pleasantly surprised.
I walked in, and was the only patron there. "Nice", I thought.
The lady who offered me the table of my choice was pleasant, and enthusiastic.
I ordered their, "Big Breakfast", and an extra-hot flat-white. (I drink fast, and therefore cannot have anything less than such).
Whilst reading my paper, the place started to fill up. The ambiance was pretty cool, with old-style jazz playing, and an obviously older audience group booking at the next table slowly filing-in. A really nice atmos. The paint and prints are complex, but comfy.
My coffee was outstanding. It was actually HOT, with the froth sitting on top like an obedient dog attached to your top lip. Beautiful!
Then came my breakfast. Two poached eggs, done to perfection, with the lightest hint of the vinegar. Two mushrooms, which were beautiful,(But, fair-dinkum, they're mushrooms, more than two will NOT break the bank), excellent blanched spinach, true old-style REAL fatty-bacon (Taste the brine, and chalky texture), and two slices of chive bread, which had the tast and texture of between sour-dough, and damper. Magnificent!
I left thinking I could have eaten more to fill me up, but then, 30 minutes later, was completely satiated (I'm a fast eater, and therefore have to temper my immediate impressions).
For about $20.00 (And for a person who reads the paper fast, and eats even faster), I was suitably impressed. Especially when I asked about the bread, and found out that they make it themselves, and their locally sourced produce is apparent IN THE EATING.
Whilst I consider myself easily impressed, I'll go back... Someday...
But early... I'd hate to think how the one, lovely wait-staff handles a full restaurant. _________________ "Quality remains long after the price is forgotten" |
