| This coffee is my latest favourite. Both take-away FW, drink-in FW and drink-in long black excellent. |

They do. Really really good coffee (although it's been 12 months since i've been there).
Also serves what has to be the BEST ICED CHOCOLATE IN THE GALAXY. A real must have!! _________________ Matthew Dewey

I give this place a 4.
I am biased though. I know one of the people that work there.
But the coffee is consistently of a high standard.
They get them out quickly.
What else do you need?
Ok. If I need something else, then I should have said something negative.
So I am changing my vote to 5. |

Wow, this place is actually awesome. I can't believe I haven't been before yesterday! The coffee is excellent.
Not so sure about the assertion on the board that a double ristretto contains less caffeine than a single shot, though? I always thought that a d/ristretto was the strength of a double shot in a single, kinda thing..? |

| It should taste twice as strong, but it is the more caramel, sweeter part of the extraction. Maybe you get more caffine the second part of the pour. |

Actually 2 reasons coffee can be low in caffeine. One: The beans. Robusta beans are generally used to add strength and body to blends. Contains a high amount of caffeine. Arabica beans are of a higher quality and are used to add flavour. They contain less caffeine and impurities.
A double ristretto shot consists of 15 mls of coffee poured from each side of a double basket. The first 15mls of a shot of coffee is the sweetest most flavoursome part of the coffee and cutting the shot short restricts the amount of impurities that are extracted. Hense, less impurities less caffeine.
The difference between a double ristretto and a double shot is
a double shot is 30mls from each side of a double basket = 60mls
Double ristretto is 2 x 15ml shots= 30mls total.
Hope this helps explain.

I like a bit of Robusta in a coffee blend. At first I thought it was a disturbing trend, done only because it was cheaper, but now I like it. _________________ Join Eating Tassie on facebook. |

Yeah cool, that's pretty much as I thought.
Do you really think a d/ristretto contains less caffine than a single shot though?
Has it been, like, scientifically proven or something? |

Yes, I do.
The reason being is when you pour 2 x 15mls you are cutting it off before it starts extracting the majority of the cafffeine out of a shot. With a single 30mls shot the last 15mls of that shot is very high in caffeine.
One of the new island blends has a bit of robusta in it I think Jason.
I'm in the habbit of always asking what's in the blend they are using before they pour me a shot.

These guys do not roast their own coffee, but have been using another local brand, and I love it.
The food is great, and the ambience is excellent.
I think service is fantastic, and the coffee is just magnificent.
Great baristas too.
I asked the guy there and they use Oomph Coffee.
Apparently it is specially roasted by Oomph just for Island.
Ask the boss there, coz he knows heaps about coffee.
They use a very funky auto grinder too. |

Just had a flat white at the Island today...it was fantastic.
Quite fresh but sweet and chocolaty. The colour in the crema was a beautiful gold and red.
The barista chick said it was a dark columbian single origin.
