Pretty average. Despite them trying to make a cool space inside, it lacked character. The service was pretty impersonal too - the waitresses were simply doing their job, that was it.
The coffee was terrible. I asked for a weak long black and it was like dishwater. Perhaps this was my fault in ordering - I was anticipating a coffee similar in strength to what Villino serves, but it was substantially weaker than that, so perhaps had I ordered a regular long black it might have been ok. I did also choose a "smooth" blended coffee, so maybe that too contributed. My partner was happy with his cappuccino.
I also thought the toasted pide were small for the price (and not very tasty either) - but then when we went to The Pigeon Hole they were smaller again (though of a much higher calibre), so perhaps I'm a little out of touch. I don't eat at cafes terribly often these days. |

| Glad to hear you had a great coffee experience there Barrack. Perhaps they were having an off day when they made mine that day. |

Oh Barrack! Shame that you edited out your detailed assessment about the coffee! Never mind - though do make sure you keep posting as I'm sure other coffee fanatics and lovers will surely benefit from your keen ability to pick the subtle flavours in the coffee.
I for one will give the Cupping Room another go after your previous glowing assessment, and no matter about the earlier comments - a bit of debate and passion can be fun and colourful reading! |

Returned the other day to give the Cupping Room another go. This time, not wanting to make the same mistake as last time, I ordered a full strength long black. I think the blend I chose was Ecuadorian - suggested for a black coffee by the waitress (though on the menu sheet it said to have with milk, but whatever really). It was initially a little bitter - with a thin dark-caramel and almost crust-like crema - but very, very flavoursome. I did find it rather silty in mouthfeel, which I found a little offputting, but it was definately flavoursome in a way different to coffees I have had elsewhere. I imagine the silty-ness was not intentional - maybe the grind was set too small. I guess when you're playing with different blends all the time and and re-setting your grinder constantly its going to be a harder task to get them all right 100%.
I still find the big warehouse setting not that conducive to having a nice relaxing sit down - but others are not put off at all - the place was packed when we went. |

| I realized the shop is packed all the time and I thought the coffee must be nice. I get there and tried one of the coffees. It tastes watery. Not sure whether it is the milk problem or the barista. Whatever the case I was really disappointed. |

I was dissapointed too. Place is packed out so I expected it to be good... Should have known better.
No table service (?) and when I ordered they guy behind the counter tried to start an argument with me about how I requested my coffee (I wanted ristretto shots instead of full shots), look it was just how I wanted my coffee, I didn't need a lecture about how they normally make coffees.
Food is from the 80's, and I wont be back. |

^ ^ I agree.
My sister was parked outside Chemist Warehouse the other day waiting for me, and when I returned to the car, she asked me why it doesn't have the business name on the front of the building. I pointed it out to her, but it is really hard to see. I think the building used to be a garage and there was a Volkswagen beetle painted on it? Or maybe I am thinking of somewhere else/hallucinating. |

Dirty cutlery, wrapped in damp paper napkins - eeewww! That's what we were given when we finally checked out this place.
It was so busy that we didn't bother asking for replacement cutlery & napkins, we just wiped them ourselves.
We ordered a veggie burger and a mushroom bruschetta. The bruschetta had nice flavours but was very sloppy. The veggie burger was awful: bland, soggy mush. Yuck.
Family members have raved about this place, especially the wagyu burger and the salt/pepper squid. Maybe those things are their strengths. I'm not hurrying back, though. |
