Summer Kitchen For all round, heavy, real bread. Sprouted wheat sourdough a stand out winner smoothered in homous and avocado.
Richmond Bakery in bank arcade have more commercial looking breads but do them all exceedingly well. Fantastic Sourdoughs and Ryes. Really good range of rolls too. Best in the CBD by far.
Kitchen Bakery in Moonah for good old fashioned fair. Good range of gluten free products too. They did "Reggie Biscuits" at the time her fame on Big Brother was unsinkable.
Jean Pascal for his range of the more trendy breads. Price does reflect tho. |

I notice you do not mention Jackson and Maccross. They have a large selection of breads. I like the fig, pear bread. But it does seem like the love has gone out of a lot of the breads. I still eat it nearly everyday.
I am a fan of the German Bakery in Sandy Bay. Mostly because I love Bretzels. They could have more salt on them, but everyone to their own taste I guess. Eat them with steins of german beer. |

| friend ordered a scroll from a bakery in sandy bay recently (just off the main road). Included in with the vanilla custard was a cockroach. It hadn't consumed much of the scroll, and of course it might have crawled into the bag from somewhere else (or teleported in??). More than a bit disconcerting! |

| I have a fondness for bagels, but where do you get them fresh? I drive by the Manna Bakehouse in New Town every day, but I assume that they are not a shopfront. |

Yeah and Augusta Foodstore if you're psychic and can work out what day they're delivered. Or just not too lazy to ask.
The blueberry ones served with cream cheese. *dribble* |

Lipscombe Larder has some great bread including a lovely 100% rye and a fruits of the vine which is scrumptious (son's word choice!) toasted with lashings of butter! And their baguette.
Golden Tulip fruit bread is stuffed with fruit and a family favourite
24 hour bakery next to the Kit Kat Cafe in East Devonport for pasta duro but they only make two loaves a day! We ate the last one beside Great Lake with Ash Grove cheese.

Another vote for Summerhill Kitchen sprouted wheat (or rye).
Bauer’s is similarly textured and just brilliant.
I still rate Jackman & McRoss and Jean-Pascal. |

I got the best baguette from La Torta 310 today, it was how bread used to taste - how it should taste, not how it usually does now, robbed of flavour. I find even Jackman MCross baguettes lack that proper bread flavour. But these - oh, I felt like I was in France for the while that I was eating it!
Shame the main waitress is so in your face - I find her so offputting I've realised I actually avoid going in there. |

I've been wishing that La Torta stayed open later than they did - they close at 5 and that's too early for me to be able to get stuff on the way home.
But noticed a sign on their door today, saying they'll be open until 7pm on Thursdays and Fridays, which is good news.
Their bubble & squeak muffins are awesome |

| I've been dragging myself out of bed every Sunday morning just to get a loaf of bread from the Companion Bakery stall at the farmers market, hands down beats any others. Their Pecorino, Celery and Garlic Sourdough is superb, as is their Roast Pumpkin one. In fact everything from that stall is delicious. |

| Wow, Pecorino, Celery and Garlic Sourdough - that sounds great! I must stop sleeping in so much on a Sunday and drag myself out of bed to get down there too! |

Foodstore has them every day now, and they also have the best (ZUM) dinner rolls.
Agree on the blueberry ones, |
